Allison is a board-certified nurse practitioner and health & wellness coach who specializes in functional medicine. Functional medicine seeks to identify and address the root cause of disease and uses an integrative, science-based approach to prevent and treat illness. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Allison gives clients the tools necessary to make a change and develops customized wellness programs that aimed to help clients achieve their personal goals and take back their health. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Mount Carmel College and her graduate degree from the University of Cincinnati, both in Ohio where she was born and raised. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and three daughters in her spare time.
Over 2000 years ago, Hippocrates made the hypothesis that “All Disease Begins in the Gut” and we are now finding out that there was a lot of truth to this statement.
One of the most important factors in achieving optimal health and wellness is a properly functioning gut. Poor gut health results in nutritional deficiencies, causes significant illness and disease, interferes with digestion, absorption and numerous other bodily functions including inflammation, immune function, hormone balance, brain function, and more.
The majority of the population has poor gut health largely because of a poor diet, but also because of overuse of medications, chronic stress, and exposure to environmental toxins. These factors are ultimately leading to unbalanced gut flora (dysbiosis), and an increased susceptibility to intestinal permeability (leaky gut). The scary part being, that for some this presents itself as something that seems relatively harmless like bloating, heartburn, IBS, and excess gas, while for the not-so-lucky ones it can mean something more serious like a chronic inflammatory condition of the skin, joints, bowel, or brain and nervous system.
Our Functional Nutrition programs at Infusion are aimed towards eliminating inflammation, restoring gut health and essentially getting to the root cause of our client’s issues, not just merely covering up their symptoms.
Our Health coach Allison Sayre is trained expert at assessing each patient’s status relating to modifiable lifestyle factors and fundamental clinical imbalances through careful history taking, one on one coaching, and most importantly, testing via our newest tool, BrainSpan. By measuring levels of harmful inflammation, we can have quantitative information to track each clients progress assuring the intended results are being obtained.
